Gun Safety
Without following the rules on Gun Safety we run unacceptable risk of injury, death and destruction. We don't allow unsafe gun handling around us and neither should you.
First
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. What is a safe direction? It is that direction which minimizes or eliminates the possibility of injury, death, or destruction should the gun fire.
Second
Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. If the gun is in a case or holster, keep your hands off of the gun, as well as he trigger, until ready to shoot.
Third
Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use. Keep the ammunition separate from the gun until ready to load and use. Obviously this can be impractical for police, military, and anyone carrying for self-defense but other than that.....keep it unloaded. Another thing that will help with gun safety is to always treat every gun as though it were loaded. Lots of accidents happen every year with guns that are supposedly unloaded. Many a person have be shoot from supposed unloaded guns. More tragically, children have died from "unloaded" guns. Be careful, guns are not toys. If you are not sure how to handle a gun, don't guess. Get help from someone more knowledgeable like a club official.
At the club
At the shooting club safety is paramount. There are usually other people with guns that can be hurt or hurt you. In addition to following the three fundamental rules above, you must be aware of your surroundings and the commands of the Club Officials. The Club Officials are the ones responsible for the safety of everyone at the range. When he or she tells you to do something, do it. I say this because there is a tendency for new shooters (and experienced ones) to see something and try to emulate it. This might be a fancy Steven Seagal shooting technique (movie stuff) or trying to keep up with a GrandMaster of practical shooting. Instead of that just listen to the Club Officials, think safety at all times, and progress safely at your own pace.
Its not the gun that kills or harms people it is the person using or handling it
